Eleventh Edition: Hyderabad

The start of the Hyderabad exploration!

1. I think most people probably know about it, but we have some beautiful botanical gardens a 10-15 walk from the residence. It’s fairly small, but is a wonderful place to lie in the sun and read, throw a frisbee around, or just chill by the lake in the middle and take a break from busyness. You can find it here.

2. Keeping with the outdoor theme while the sun isn’t coming down too hot, 80 km outside of Hyderabad are the Anantagiri Hills. It’s beautiful out there for a day of hiking, picnicking, and getting a sweat on. I think the best way to get there is to rent a taxi for the day and split it between 4 people, it ended up being around 500 rupees each for the 1.5 hour journey each way and a pick up at the end of the hike. More details here: https://www.trawell.in/telangana/hyderabad/anantagiri-hills.

3. So everyone who came to Elevation got a chance to visit Phoenix Arena, but maybe not everyone saw that there is a little library, cafe, and outdoor seating spot inside. You can borrow books there for free, and work outside in the sun (no wifi though, so only good for offline work). A lot of the office workers nearby go there for lunch in the green space, so it’s a really cool place to be. If you don’t remember how to get there, follow this map, or the three signs that are somehow still up on the side of the road from Elevation.

4. It’s going to be hard not to have at least one food rec each week because there is such an abundance of delicious (and cheap) food around us, so I’ll kick it off with a biriyani place I really like. It’s called Angara Kebabs on Charcoal. Find it here. I’d recommend keeping it simple and trying the biryani, but prepare for A LOT of food. Go hungry, and get your hands messy.

5. I know a lot of people are in cafe withdrawal after Seoul, and while we aren’t quite in the cafe heaven that we were in last semester, there are still some options for cafe working sessions. To kick it off, check out Little Things in Banjara Hills. A dessert spot that has internet and comes recommended by Jess as a good spot for getting work done! Find it here.
