Eighteenth Edition: Hyderabad

It's really warming up in Hyderabad, so this week we have a few films to keep you cool inside...

1. Documentary recommendation: An Insignificant Man. If you’re curious to know a little more about the Indian political system, watch this film. It’s about Arvind Kejriwal, the leader of the Common Man’s Party and his effort to challenge the corruption of the existing leadership in Delhi. It’s a fascinating insight into the forces that govern the country we’re living in and the biggest documentary feature to ever come out of India. You can watch the whole film on Vice’s YouTube channel here.

2. Keeping with the film theme, PVR cinemas is doing an Oscars Film Festival at the moment, screening a number of the Best Picture nominees. If you didn’t make it to any of Yoav’s screenings and want to see some of the best films of the year, head along to the cinema. There are a number of cinemas near us, with the closest being PVR icon, which you can find here.

3. If you have clothes, shoes, or books you no longer need, drop them off at the Share Happiness Kiosk! On the way to Shilparamam Market there is a stall on the footpath, marked by bright red, yellow, blue, and green painted bottles that is welcoming any donations. Instead of just throwing things out, take a ten minute walk along HiTech City Road and leave some things in the boxes there for people who could really use them.

4. Another green space for people to chill out in: Sanjeevaiah Park. Perched right on the edge of the Hussain Sagar lake, Sanjeevaiah is a beautiful spot to take a breather and enjoy the sun (or the shade if you prefer). There’s a rose garden area, a rock garden area, and a big open space beneath a GIANT Indian flag. Louis found it as a spot to visit near our Quinquatria venue, and I think it’s well worth the trek over. Find it here.

5. A cafe rec to finish this week’s edition: 84 Anjuna Shack. This is a laid-back little space about a ten minute drive from home. Out the front, they have low tables where you sit on pillows on the floor. Inside, a bunch of tables surrounded by bookshelves and a bunch of art. Good wifi, plenty of outlets, and a lovely place to spend a little time. You can find it here.
